Capital punishment is still active in the state and death row inmates are executed mostly by lethal ejection in the Holcman Correctional facility near the city of Altmore. There are 29 facilities, five are considered maximum security by the Alabama Department of Correction. : Donaldson, Holman, Kilby, St Clair and Tutwiler, 11 are considered medium security ; 13 camps, community work center and work release. Alabama inmates can receive and send mail by the US mail, but Internet services is strictly prohibited. To visit an inmate you must be on the inmate's approved visitation list. Nearly, half of the prison population are incarcerated for crime against persons. The other half is equally divided in 2 parts : sentenced for property crimes and drugs and other crimes. The Supreme Court of Alabama established in 1841 is the highest court in the 'Yellow hammer state' and is located in the capital city of Montgomery. |
