There 33 state prison in the Golden State divided in several type of facilities such as Correctional center and Institution, Medical facility (Vaccaville), Men's Colony (San Luis Obispo), Rehabilitation Center (Norco), Substance Abuse Treatment Facility (Corcoran), Deuel Vocational Institution ( San Joaquin County ). Unfortunately, even with this high number of institutions, state prison are overcrowded, that's why California Department of Correction and Rehabilitation contracted private correctional facilities in Oklahoma, Mississippi and Arizona. Juvenile Section is particularly developped in California and the division of Juvenile Justice lends treatment and provide education to californian criminals up to the age of 25. Partnership with local government and communities allow inmates to participate to adult rehabilitation programs. In 1976, U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty and death row inmates are allowed to choose asphyxiation or lethal injection. |
