The prison system in Colorado is divided into public and private facilities. In fact there are four private units in the state : Bent County Correctional Facility, Crowley County Correctional Facility, Cheyenne Mountain Re-entry Center and Kit Carson Correctional Center. Among the public facilities you have the Reception and Diagnostic Center located in Denver on Smithe Road, it's the first stop for all the offenders before going to their final facility. 17 Correctionnal Facility, Complex and Center all around the state, one state penitentiary in Cañon City and one youthful offender system in Pueblo. But what the difference between a public and a private US prison? Privatization refers to the takeover of a public facility by a private company. There are government facilities operated by private contractors and the other are owned and run by private companies. 14 officers fall in the line of Duty so to pay tribute to them The Colorado Department of Correction decided to build a fallen officer memorial in front of the oldest state prison in Colorado : the Colorado Territorial Correctional Facility in Cañon City. Criminal punishment is legal in The Centennial State and executed in the Colorado State Penitentiary. The Current method of death penalty is the lethal injection and the first offender to be executed by this method was Gary Lee Davis in 1997 after a 30 years period of capital execution free. |
