 | This correctional facility was built in 1976. They have a maximum capacity of 484 inmates and a staff of about 200 employees. The focus is mainly on youth offenders. There are several services that the facility provides; food, medical, transportation and religious services. Since 05 Aramark has been providing meals for the inmates and the staff. The medical department provides basic medical, dental and psychiatric forms of service to inmates. The transportation department transports inmates from the correctional institution to the courthouse as well as various other facilities the inmates are mandated to go. The Classification department ensures that inmates are housed appropriately according to their criminal history and level of custody. The Chaplain is responsible for all religious ceremonies and practices. As a direct result of Chapter 958, Florida statutes: all youthful offenders are enrolled in the Extended Day Program. This requires at least 12 hours of activities to be provided. The activities provided at this facility include: vocational and academic programs designed to allow the inmates to get their GED or acquire skills which can be used after their rehabilitation. There are drills, work, and classes designed to improve the chances of these young men better assimilating into society upon release. |
