 | In 1997 the Santa Rosa County Department of Detention constructed a modern and high-tech jail facility in Milton Florida. This facility was called the Santa Rosa Correctional Institution. The Santa Rosa Correctional Institution can house a total of 1,614 inmates. However, on average this facility typically has a population of 506 male inmates. The Santa Rosa Correctional Institution is unique in that it offers several programs to its inmates in order to provide them with a better chance for a successful and honest life after serving their sentence.
There is on site vocational training, as well as the ability to earn a GED certificate and become a certified food handler by working in the kitchen. They also offer classes for adult basic education and special education services for those who are less advanced. On site there are also many different spiritual and religious classes and activities which the inmates may participate in. Furthermore, and importantly, the Santa Rosa Correctional Institution saves the Santa Rosa tax payers a significant amount of money in that this facility requires inmates to participate in maintenance of the facility and to provide labor for the facility in order to keep it operational. |
