The Houston County Detention Center finished construction and became functional in 2002. It is a fairly modern facility with a direct supervision model. This design enables the Houston County Detention Center to be a very secure space for the inmates housed there and gives the community of Houston County the peace of mind that they will be safe. The Houston County Detention Center has a maximum inmate occupancy of approximately 500 inmates.
The Houston County Detention Center has a large kitchen where the inmate's daily meals are prepared. The kitchen employs contracted employees who specialize in food services, but also, the kitchen utilizes inmates to work in order to prepare some of the daily meals at the Houston County Detention Center. Furthermore, inmates work in more than just the kitchen at the Houston County Detention Center - inmates also work in the maintenance of the facility, help with the laundry services and several other areas within the Houston County Detention Center. The Houston County Detention Center also has a well equipped medical staff and facility within the facility. The medical facility is employed with an on call doctor and a staff of full time nurses. |
