 | The Berkshire County Jail and House of Correction is located at 467 Cheshire Road in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The facility is located on 25 acres and is 160,000 square feet. The Berkshire County Jail and House of Correction has 288 cells and can house a total of approximately 500 inmates. This is a new facility and became operational in 2001.The state of Massachusetts provided $39.1 million in funding for this facility in 1996 and construction began in March 1999.
In order to meet the needs of a 21st century expanding inmate population, the Berkshire County Jail and House of Correction was designed to have a sophisticated, computer driven security system. Furthermore, the Berkshire County Jail and House of Correction provides education and special treatment programs designed to provide inmates with the opportunity for self development during their time incarcerated. The programs provided include vocational and academic education, job skills evaluation and training, in addition to substance abuse treatment.
