Two Convicts in a Haystack - a Nebraska Story
Two convicts of the penitentiary in Lincoln, NE escaped and walked to Dwight, NE in prison flip-flops during a snowstorm in 1949. They were taken in by the community, thawed out and stuffed with duck, kraut and kolache. Eventually the Nebraska National Guard plowed the road and the convicts were taken back to prison, reluctantly. For more Nebraska Stories, visit www.netnebraska.org
