Jasper County SC Deputy Sheriff caught in the act.
I drive approximately 60000 miles a year on SC highways. Since moving here in 2008, I have also received a few speeding tickets. I deserved every one of them. This video was taken on 02-14-12 at approximately 14:40 hrs on I-26 NB around the 138 mile marker in Calhoun County. This is a video I took of a Jasper Count...y Sheriff's Deputy going over 90 mph without any emergency lights or siren. The car had SC License CG64342 and a county vehicle number of 08768. This deputy had no jurisdiction in Calhoun County or the couties of Lexington and Richland which he proceeded through. What is so ironic about this is that Ridgeland is the county seat for Jasper County and the first and only city in South Carolina to set up radar/speed traffic cameras where they simply run the license plate and mail the vehicle owners the tickets. They defended their use in the interest of public safety. You can spray manure with Chanel No 5 but its still manure. This was nothing more than a poor city's way of generating needed revenue. My real issue is that as many miles as I am on the highway, I am constantly passed by State Troopers, Sheriff's Deputies and Police Officers exceeding the speed limits without any indication they are responding to an emergency. The only legitimate reason for a law officer to be speeding without emergency lights and siren is if they are trying to apprehend a suspect or catch up to a suspect without being detected.
