Mother Lobbies for 'Dustin's Law'

By Jerry Askin A Bradley County mother is begging state lawmakers to pass a bill that will give tougher punishments for drunk drivers who kill others. This, after her son was killed in 2010 by a drunk driver. Kim Ledford showed us a map that accounts for more than 10300 people killed by drunk drivers in 2010. And her son makes one of those 284 people in Tennessee killed that same year. There was a girl that was driving on the wrong side of the road, she was intoxicated, she hit Dustin head on and he was killed on impact, says Kim Ledford, Dustin's mother.He called me 6 hours before he got killed to tell me Happy birthday. My birthday was July 9th, says Danny Ledford, Dustin's father.And their son Dustin Ledford died a day later on July 10th. Now, Dustin's parent want lawmakes to add tougher rules for those who kill othes drinking while driving. Right now TN law states that you have to have a prior conviction, before you get aggravated vehicular homicide, says Kim Ledford.But she says that's not enough. She wants Dustin's Law to pass -- a law that'll be in memory of her son. Eric Watson is helping us on this bill. It states if you have a BAC of 0.20% or higher or if you have a blood alcohol level of .08% and you have meth in your system then it's aggravated vehicular homicide, says Kim Ledford.Tiffany Isaza sits behinds bars sentenced to 10 years in prison for hitting and killing Dustin.
